Born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Marcelo’s interest for the guitar started as a teenager, when he picked up the instrument and set off on a self-teaching journey, all in his own “upside-down” way of holding it, as only an unconformable lefty would. It looks lefty…but it feels right.

Marcelo, an engineer by training and a musician by soul, realized at a young age that the most meaningful vehicle to express himself came in the shape of songs and poetry. Without hesitation or restrictions, he dove into the realm of words, melodies, harmonies and rhythms. Time brought experience and maturity, with personal growth always faithfully linked to his development as an artist. The separation of those processes would not be possible, would not be Marcelo. His music allows listeners to bypass any preconceived notions of what a musician should be or what pop music should sound like. Rather, it invites them to explore audible labyrinths…or simply to sit down and enjoy a song or two.

Inspiration comes to Marcelo from “life situations: a moment of fear, a victory, a broken heart, the feeling of loneliness, desire for something or someone… and the list goes on. It is the stuff that allows us to be different from one another and yet forces us to be the same.” Marcelo’s music is fresh, sincere, layered. It is a gateway to all that he has to offer as an observer, an artist, a musician.

Marcelo’s compositions draw from Bossa Nova, Jazz, Rock, Pop and world music. His songwriting approach is, inevitably, contemporary and innovative. Each song comes to the ears as an unexpected surprise. It could be a kiss on the cheek or a slap on the face… you just never know. From ballads to the pulsing beat of "The Street Inside of Me", Marcelo’s first album, “Mind The Music”, offers listeners a variety of sounds, rhythms and colors. His future albums will be shaped by everything happening around us today and tomorrow, as well as everything that has already left its mark. The only certainty is that, whatever the outcome is, every single soul out there is already invited to share Marcelo’s passion with him. Otherwise, as he would say,
"it would all be meaningless.”
